I developed a fascination with comparative religion during my early college years, and it has intrigued me every since. While being brought up in a Christian tradition, much of my formal (and informal) study has been of Oriental practices. Often the most intriguing concepts, practices and rituals are those that have developed across a multitude of cultures, regions and epochs.
The use of mudras or hand symbols is one of the most pervasive aspects of cultural and spiritual practices around the world, since time immemorial. They are described in ancient literature and depicted in ancient art around the world. In modern life, hand gestures remain a surprisingly prevalent and powerful means of communicating information, instructions and social status. They and retain the ability to instantly evoke deeply rooted responses in ourselves and others. They can be spontaneous expressions of joy or despair, or calculated expressions of support or disapproval. Picture the actions of a person excited by good news; consider your own instant emotional response to someone else’s rude or deprecating gesture toward you.
This section of the website is devoted to information and training about using hand mudras in your daily life. They are a particularly powerful form of symbolism, that seem deeply connected to our inner beings. Read the articles I am collecting here, and try some of the books and courses.
